This position is offering a $1,000 bonus

($500 payable at 6 months of employment, $500 after 12 months)

Spectrum established its Correctional Treatment Division to provide specialized treatment to offenders with a history of chronic substance abuse and criminal behavior. Using a cognitive-behavioral skill building and therapeutic community approach, Spectrum's correctional treatment programs teach participants practical ways to achieve a law abiding life, free from drugs and crime.

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides counseling services and facilitates psycho-education groups to offenders in the Rhode Island Department of Corrections High Security Center Substance Abuse Treatment Programs. Counselor responsbilties include providing information for case management/records management.

This position is for 20 hours per week with some flexibility but must be sometime in the range of 8:00am-5:00pm.


  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Education, Counseling or closely related field.
  • State License as Professional Counselor, Social Worker or Marriage & Family Therapist and/or National Certified Addictions Counselor or Masters Addictions Counselor certification. If no licensure, willingness to actively pursue and obtain LCDP.
  • Corrections experience preferred.
