This position is based out of our Corporate Office in downtown Worcester, MA.
$48,000-$60,000 salary range. Spectrum offers comprehensive benefits including health/dental/vision/disability insurances, 401k with company match, paid time off and tuition reimbursement programs.

SUMMARY:
  The System Administrator I’s role is to monitor and maintain in-house computer software systems and network connections to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.  This individual will be the primarily point of contact for service desk escalations and be responsible for routine system maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy & Planning

  • Support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end users and department managers.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Coordinate with other IT department members to implement systems and applications that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives.

  • Deploy physical and virtual servers, networked printers / scanners, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and all host security systems.

Operational Management

  • Provide technical and operational guidance to IT team members.
  • Monitor and maintain communication (email, IM, video / teleconferencing, etc) and connection solutions, including local area networks, intranet, and Internet applications.
  • Manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assists with network and security audits and relevant remediation.
  • Perform routine system backups and restores.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output fleet, and workstations. Escalate incidents as necessary.
  • Analyze system, server, application, and connection device performance.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
  • Assist in working with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities and complete projects timely and on budget.
  • Demonstrates respect for supervisors, co-workers, vendors, and others.
  • Adheres to all applicable Spectrum policies and procedures.

  • Assist Desktop Support team with incident and problem management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Formal Education & Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of work experience in the field of IT; OR

  • Four-year college or university degree in the field of computer science.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Working technical knowledge of network, PC, and Server operating systems

  • Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards, including firewalls, layer 3 switches, Active Directory and Windows Server.

  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration.

  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.

  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information.

  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

  • Experience with major backup software systems.

  • Conceptual understanding of the ITIL framework, especially Incident and Problem Management.
